Updated Summary of Meetings

Since the Summary of Meetings was posted on the website, we’ve met with several other groups, including the Housing Authority, At Home in Darien, and the developer of Heights Crossing. The Summary of Meetings has been updated to include outcomes of these additional meetings. You can download the latest version from the Work Products page.

Apartment Residents Survey Results

We reached out to residents of Darien’s apartment buildings to learn more about what brought them to Darien and their opinions about the town and its future. Thanks to all of the property managers who distributed the link to the survey to their tenants. We received 43 completed responses, which is not sufficient to reach any broad conclusions about apartment residents. The majority of survey respondents are single individuals or “empty nester” couples living in the apartments. Family ties are important to many of the respondents, having moved to Darien to be close to family members already living in town. You can download the Apartment Residents Survey Results from the Work Products page.

CT House Bill 8002

House Bill 8002, an Act Concerning Housing Growth, was passed by the Connecticut General Assembly on November 13. It is a comprehensive statewide framework that aims to address the State’s housing shortage by requiring municipalities to plan for housing growth, removing certain local regulatory barriers, and linking infrastructure and school construction funding to housing growth progress. The P&Z Department is currently reviewing the legislation. To see the details of the bill, click here. Also see the First Selectman’s edition of the Town newsletter that was sent via e-mail on November 14 and that will be posted in the newsletter archive on the Town’s website.

What’s Next with the POCD?

Shortly, we will begin the process of preparing first drafts of sections of the 2026 POCD for P&Z Commission review and comment. We expect this process to continue for several months, after which a full draft of the 2026 POCD will be made available to the public for review and comment.

Happy Thanksgiving

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!
